PSA: Forum Update

Mar 29, '17, 10:39pm

Hey All-

We've made a few updates to the forums in the past week.

Front Desk: We cleaned out all the old threads in the Front Desk and replaced them with FAQs that represent the most commonly asked about topics. We will be building out those FAQs as we get questions. Users can no longer make threads in the Front Desk- but there should be a thread to cover every topic now.

Kinda Funny: We reduced the Kinda Funny category by removing the GOGS, Gamescast, and KFMS forums. These forums didn't often get used, so we're hoping this new organization will increase discussion in episode threads. We've consolidated all the threads into Kinda Funny and Kinda Funny Games forums. The PSILY forum is currently a sub-forum to Kinda Funny Games. We're waiting for Greg to announce his plans for PSILY before we do anything with it.

KFL3: We added a KLF3 forum in the KF section- this is the place for any threads related to the event.

Gaming: We removed the "Gaming with the Community" subforum. For now, if you're looking for people to game with, please post those threads in the various platform forums.

Lifestyle & Entertainment: We removed the Science & Tech forum, and combined the Literature and Music forums into the new "Media" forum- which can now include things like YouTube videos. The forums we removed/combined weren't very active.

Emotes: Updated the emote list. Removed a bunch that didn't get used, and added some standard smilies. You can access the old emotes by clicking "view more smilies" under the emote list.

If you have any questions or feedback about these changes, or ideas for future changes you'd like to see- please let us know!

-Lindsay

Click "view more smilies" under the emote list. You can currently access all the old ones that way- they just don't display in the main list.

Great update, thanks!

Were there any conversations to further condense the sub forums?

We discussed it for quite a while and landed on this for now. Feel free to offer suggestions! We're always open to changing things around to work better for everyone.

Appreciate the ongoing work and willingness for feedback!

While looking through some of the sub forums, there are threads that havent been active since Jan/Feb on the first page. I feel like there would be more engagement, if when i popped into a subforum, there were many ongoing conversations (maybe i'm dreaming). So after all that, my suggestion would be to trim down the Video Games and Lifestyle sub forums as you have with KF - maybe just Video Games / Entertaiment / General Discussion...

Just my two cents kfsmile

That might be a bit too condensed! There's a delicate balance where too few forums discourages people from making threads because the forums are too active, and too many forums makes it too overwhelming. We'll definitely see if we can condense further though.

Here is April's thread: viewtopic.php?f=15&t=3098

The question suggestion threads will always be stickied to the top of the Kinda Funny Games subforum!

I've always just seen it as forum members being lazy and choosing not to post. I personally think the video game sub forums are fine, people just need to engage more. It's not like we don't have a lot of members...
