After watching the Kinda Funny GOTY video, and reading the hateful comments. I wanted to share my sense in a rational manner.
First off Uncharted 4 is an amazing game, Naughtydog pushes the limits of presentation with their attention to detail, and tells great stories. I'm fairly new to the Uncharted series because I played the Nathan Drake Collection in like February, but I thought Uncharted 4 does a great job and closing the series. However gameplay with the Naughtydog games has been its flaw for me. Coming from the Xbox 360 to PS4, I was a huge Gears of War fan and Gears has the best 3rd person shooting imo. So if your GOTY is Uncharted 4, I completely understand.
This next part I'm completely unqualified so take it with a grain of salt. I'm terrible at platformers I tried Limbo, I liked the art style and the story I'm not sure I understood it but I suck at the gameplay. Thus I haven't played Inside but I plan to do later on, from all the great things I'm hearing. Then for shooters, man has this year been a great year for shooters, but I stopped playing multiplayer games after I switched to PS4 because I wanted more solo game experiences. But the variety from Overwatch a super-smash bros type shooter for anyone, doesn't matter what play-style they choose because they can excel in it. Doom is the only one I played this year but the fast-paced, adrenaline pumping rush of killing demons is super fun. Battlefield 1 for all the people who wanted to go back to an older setting and great single player. Titanfall 2 added more content, progression and a campaign. COD: Infinite Warfare, still a really good shooter and an interesting campaign that I want to play. Again I'm not really qualified to talk about these games except for Doom, but if any of these were your GOTY I completely understand why.
For all the other games I'm missing Dark Soul 3, Watch Dogs 2, The Witness, XCOM 2, CIV6, The Last Guardian, Final Fantasy XV, etc. It's amazing how many different great games there are for different genres for fans. My most anticipated game for 2016 was actually Deus Ex: Mankind Divided because I loved Human Revolution. But the game turned how to be disappointing in terms of its story because it looks like part of the game was cut for a sequel / DLC. Turns out the game I enjoyed the most was mostly likely Dishonored 2 because of it's level design and replayability.
Point is I didn't like the youtube comments of people saying "Oh sony fan boys of course its Uncharted 4", saying "Uncharted 4 is overrated", or saying "I'm glad Overwatch didn't win because its only multiplayer". Even though I found 2016 a little disappointing, I think everyone can agree that 2016 had a game for everyone regardless of your preference. It's okay if your favorite game didn't win GOTY because it's your favorite and that is what should matter. Just be respectful of other people's opinions. Thanks for reading and hopefully I didn't piss anyone off.
