Steelbooks

May 12, '17, 10:24pm

Anyone into them at all? I've managed to accumulate a number of them for movies and video games, though I cut back on buying them because I realized how much of a waste of money they are. I actually kind of want to sell some that I own. However I really enjoy them. To me they are the premium version of something you like. They usually have cool art, and they feel more valuable than a plastic case. Here is what I have.
Image
Prey, Titanfall 2, Fallout 4, Uncharted Collection PS4, COD Black Ops, The Witcher 3, Destiny, Wolfenstein The New Order, Uncharted 4, GTA V, The Order 1886, Battlefield 4, Homefront The Revolution.
Image
The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, Godzilla, Inception, District 9, Elysium, Chappie, Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, I Am Legend, The Dark Knight, Star Wars ep7, John Wick, Guardians Of The Galaxy, Captain America WS, Captain America CW, Ant Man, Doctor Strange, Looper, Interstellar, Rise/Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes, Furious 7, Pulp Fiction, Reservoir Dogs, Django Unchained.

I'd say my favorite movie case is Looper, though I spent the most money on John Wick. My favorite game case is Prey, though Uncharted 4 and The Witcher 3 are also pretty great. My The Order 1886 and Wolfenstein cases piss me off because for some reason they decided to leave the spines completely blank. No words or anything, wtf.

So does anyone have a steelbook collection? Do you have ANY? Do you have a favorite? Is physical media a waste of money?(yes) Should I just stfu?(yes) Feel free to post pics of yours or tell me how much of an idiot I am for buying these.(Though I already hate myself enough for it)

I have some steelbooks, but for movies only, not games. Like you said, they are something I'll buy for my favorite titles. I'm in the process of moving, so my collection is boxed up at the moment. Not that it's entirely huge, I probably own less than 10 steelbook blu rays. They're definitely a neat collector's item.

What do you got, if you can remember them all. You don't have to provide pictures, you can just list them out. You can even add what version you have since many movies have multiple steelbooks. I can look them up on google. Or just give a list, that's perfectly fine too.

Batman Begins
The Dark Knight
The Dark Knight Rises
Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom
Casino
Rogue One

I think that's all?

Band of Brothers came in a steelbook case for the TV Series but I don't think that was a special version, I think they all came like that.

The only one I have is an all black, steel case for Akira, in fact if you look at the set of the GoG show I think Nick has one standing up on the shelf. I enjoy it but its still got nothing on this dvd case.

I just have one steelbook and it's the Destiny one. I don't buy a lot of physical media anymore and when I do it's to save money so steelbooks are not included.

They're useless, in my opinion.

I have Xbox games and movies, too.

I have a couple for movies and a couple of CDs. Diplo's 'Fabriclive: 24' mix is one of 2 that I have I think. Personally I am not a fan, I am not sure why but they just don't really appeal to me.

I wish I could have gotten one for Doom without paying for it on eBay. Bestbuy had a deal to get one but you had to buy the season pass bundle, and I didn't give a shot about its multiplayer.

In the Doom thread I posted a link a while ago to Amazon selling the collectors edition for, I want to say $29.99 $46.17. It came with the figurine (which is actually cool) and the Steelbook.

Maybe it was more than that, but ridiculously cheap.

They're cool because they're more heavy duty, but not for the extra money. I only buy them when they're the same as regular retail or part of a package I want (season pass).

Except I don't want the figurine. It's cool, but too big and for a game I didn't absolutely love. I just would have liked to get a free steelbook like the Prey one. Thanks for the suggestion though. :D

Something about steelbook cases gets me to excited. They just feel so premium and special. Whenever a collectors edition for a game doesn't have one I wonder what the devs/marketing team were thinking. I think my favourites from my collection are the 3 different Witcher 3 steelbooks and the Overwatch one. (Nice collection btw, that Prey one is sick!)

Yeah I also scratch my head whenever a collectors edition doesn't have a steelbook. Many times those editions have really dumb items in them, and it would be way more better if they just swapped it with a steelbook.

I think that's pretty cool that you have all three Witcher 3 steelbooks. Those would be cool to have displayed next to each other.(And thanks. The Prey one is great because they really put in effort to give it some unique art, unlike others that just use the same or similar covers as the regular cases.)

I used to have several, but lack of space meant I had to go all digital.

With hindsight, it was a good move because they (collectively) took a hell of a lot of space. Although weirdly, I haven't gone digital when it comes to books, think its down to the fact I like to read before bed and prefer not to be looking at a screen right before I go to sleep.

What did you do with your physical movies? I'd love to get rid of all mine, but I don't know the best way to do it. I used to collect blurays, spent quite a bit of money on them. With everything doing the way of digital now, I find it very inconvenient to bother with physical discs anymore. Plus, it clutters up space.

Very, VERY rarely will I buy a physical movie anymore. Physical discs offer slightly better picture and audio quality, or at least I perceive it to.

I sold them all. There are companies in the UK that will give you a valuation on everything with a barcode. For some of the rarer stuff I had, such as Formula 1 Season Reviews, I made a profit over what I bough them for back in 2004!

You have to shop around to see which sites will give you the best prices for your stuff.

The rest I took a store called CEX (not sure if you have them in Freedomland) which is infamous for being the smelliest store known to humankind. Must be down the clientel and the fact nobody had showed them what deoderant is. Every single stinks to high heaven, but they will buy everything from you.

There are some items which these trade in sites won't take (because there's no demand, they have too much stock of that item etc) so you have to cut your losses and get the few quid per item.

At it's peak, between dvds, blurays (excluding box sets) the total number was around 370. With the boxsets, there was about 400 units in total, add to that old books too, there was a full room of stuff! Books are harder to shift, but if I couldn't sell them I gave them to charity.

Still, with the stuff I couldn't sell through the likes of Music Magpie, Ziffit and Decluttr - I sold through CEX (which was still two 45ltr clear boxes which I had to use a trolley to take to the store. To be fair, I sold my old Racing Rig through there and got half of my money back that I paid for it!

I love them, especially since I'm a dumb sucker for physical games/movies.
Drive, It Follows, Alien, Man of Steel, Dark Knight, Dark Knight Rises, Amazing Spider-man 1/2, Guardians of the Galaxy (probably my favorite), and Fallout 4 are the ones I can think of off the top of my head.
Love the style and art on almost all of them. I'm a sucker for em.

I collect the Marvel ones. My most recent one though was Logan. Im less into them for games since I tend to trade mine in and steelbooks tend to have no value

I recently made a cross country move and my massive movie collection had to go. I put listings on a blu-ray forum and what didnt sell, I traded in via Amazon or http://www.selldvdsonline.com/. Trade in value wasnt always great but it was either that or throw them out/donate to library.
