Been binging on Tyler, The Creator's Flower Boy album, and man oh man I love it. I remember listening to Wolf and Cherry Bomb, thinking "This guy is so close to making something special." Because usually it was a sense of odd production choices and a sense that he wasn't really allowing himself to rap about things he is feeling/thinking about. He wasn't being "him", lyrically that is.
Which is why I love his new album so much; he's still his crazy animated self, deranged and all, but he's talking about topics and concepts that he personally worries about and thinks about, things he's touched on in his initial Bastard EP, and on brief occasions on Wolf, Cherry Bomb, and Goblin. Boredom, Who Dat Boy, 911/Mr. Lonely, Garden Shed, my favorites thus far. But really I love all the songs on it, with Where This Flower Blooms being maybe my least favorite (but I still like it alot, it just production wise isn't the strongest of the bunch).
